ACTION SUDBURY sponsored RIDE check: On December 19, 2007 officers of the Traffic Management Unit conducted an Officers concentrated their efforts in New Sudbury as well as the South end of the City. 384 vehicles were checked and of those vehicles 8 people were suspected of drinking and driving. Those drivers were given a roadside demand resulting in one person being charged with Impaired Driving and one person received a 12 hour suspension of their licence. Another five people were charged with Highway Traffic Act offences.
Officers will continue to be diligent and concentrate their efforts in areas of high incidents of impaired driving throughout the festive season. The public is reminded to take alternate means of transportation when they plan on drinking.

November officers
of the Traffic Management Unit conducted RIDE checks in the City of Sudbury over
the weekend which was sponsored by ACTION SUDBURY.
Two people were charged with Impaired Driving and one other person was
issued a 12 hour suspension for having a blood alcohol concentration between .05
and .08. One of the persons charged
with Impaired was also charged with speeding and driving under suspension.
During the spot checks a vehicle was stopped and it was determined that the plates on the vehicle were stolen. A male party was charged with the following offences:
Possession of Stolen Property
Breach of Probation
Use plates not authorized for vehicle
No Insurance
Fail to apply for permit on becoming a owner
Class G1 license holder unaccompanied by a qualified driver.
While conducting the spot checks on Falconbridge road another officer clocked a motor vehicle approaching the spot check at 139 km/h in a posted 60 km/h zone. The driver of the vehicle was charged with Drive motor vehicle while performing a stunt and lost his driver’s license and vehicle for seven days.
