OPP Charge Two Under The Liquor Licence Act

On Sunday, August 01 at 7:35 p.m., Sudbury OPP had a complaint about a driver swerving all over the road on Highway 17. Police found the vehicle and pulled it over.

Police found open liquor in the vehicle.

Kyle Yli-Renko, 24, of Onaping, was charged with impaired driving, over 80, drive a motor vehicle on a highway while using a hand-held wireless communication device and having liquor in an open container other than a licenced premises, residence or private place. He is to appear in court in Sudbury on Aug. 25.

On Monday about 3:20 p.m., OPP officers conducting radar enforcement on Highway 17 stopped a vehicle travelling 147 km/h in a 100 km/h zone. The driver was pulled over and failed a roadside breath test.

Roman Kozak, 55, of Toronto, was charged with over 80, speeding, class G1 licence holder unaccompanied by a qualified driver and novice driver with a blood alcohol concentration above zero. He is to appear in court in Sudbury on Aug. 18.

"It's gratifying to see the efforts put in by the men and women of the OPP who focus on saving lives through enforcement," stated the new OPP Commissioner Chris Lewis in a press release. "Our strategy of both increased visibility and focussing on the three key areas of aggressive driving, drinking and driving and seatbelts remains effective."

"OPP cracked down on irresponsible drivers over the entire weekend," stated Deputy Commissioner Larry Beechey. "All operators are responsible for their actions not just on the highways, but our waterways and trails and must take extra care and follow the rules."
